NYU Langone Hospitals

NYU Langone Medical Center, located in Manhattan, is a renowned medical centre for health care, biomedical research and medical education in the United States. It consists of four hospitals: NYU Compassionate Care Hospital, NYU School of Medicine Riske Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine (one of five hospitals in the world specialising in orthopaedics and rheumatology), Hassenfeld Children's Centre (which includes a full range of children's health services) and the Hospital for Joint Diseases. NYU Langone Medical Center has been a pioneer in the field of medicine. Their five clinical areas of strength are: heart and vascular, neurology and neurosurgery, cancer, musculoskeletal, and children's services. NYU Langone Medical Center is ranked third in the U.S. News and World Report's "Hospitals in America 2022-23" list.


Disease Management Neurosurgery Centre
The Department of Neurology at NYU Langone Medical Center is ranked in the top 2022-23 U.S. Hospitals - Neurology by U.S. News and World Report.

The centre has excellent facilities for the evaluation and treatment of neurological disorders in children and adults, a large number of referrals and the hospital's own capacity to ensure extensive clinical exposure for its professional staff and interns.

The four hospitals providing inpatient services are clustered in the eastern part of downtown Manhattan, south of UNHQ, namely Tigers Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, the VA New York Harbor Health Care System and the Hospital for Joint Diseases, each of which has attending physicians, residents, nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers and other professionals working in concert to provide relevant services to patients.

Disease Management Geriatrics Center
The Department of Geriatrics at NYU Langone Medical Center is ranked third in the U.S. News and World Report's "2022-23 U.S. Hospitals - Geriatrics".


The medical department recruited Dr Carolyn Burrum to lead the Division of Geriatrics in 2012, reaffirming its commitment to geriatrics in clinical practice, education and research. This further adds to NYU Langone Medical Centre's focus on geriatrics and its long history in geriatrics. Shortly after Dr. Bertram's arrival at NYU Langone, palliative care was combined with geriatrics to create the department of geriatrics and palliative care that it now is.

Major projects include: the Diana and Arthur Belfer Centre for Geriatrics; the Geriatric Cardiology Program; the Support Geriatrics Program; and Palliative Care.

Disease Management Orthopaedic Centre
The Department of Orthopaedics at NYU Langone Medical Center's Hospital for Joint Diseases is ranked fourth in the U.S. News and World Report's "2022-23 U.S. Hospitals - Orthopaedics".

Since 1905, the Orthopaedic Center at the Hospital for Joint Diseases has provided high-quality medical and surgical care for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of orthopaedic, musculoskeletal, rheumatic, immune and neurological disorders and other related diseases and injuries. Research into improved treatment options has led to innovations in projects addressing pain, work-related injuries and neurodevelopmental disorders in children, in addition to helping injured and disabled patients return to as many daily activities as possible. The Centre maintains the health and safety of its patients with a medical team comprising specialists in anaesthesia, neurology, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and radiology, as well as a nursing staff that provides the advanced and specialist care expected in a hospital.
Nine sub-specialties: Adult Orthopaedics; Sports Medicine; Spinal Surgery; Shoulder and Elbow Surgery; Foot and Ankle Surgery; Hand Surgery; Trauma and Fracture Surgery; Orthopaedic Oncology; Paediatrics and Orthopaedic Surgery.

Disease Management Center for Rheumatic and Immune Diseases
The Orthopaedic Center at NYU Langone Medical Center's Hospital for Joint Diseases was ranked ninth in the 2018-19 U.S. Hospitals - Rheumatology by U.S. News and World Report.

The centre is dedicated to caring for patients with rheumatic diseases affecting the joints, soft tissues and connective tissues, and treats conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, hip, knee and shoulder arthritis, lupus, pediatric rheumatic diseases and Lyme disease.


Patients are diagnosed, treated and rehabilitated at the centre by a team of physiotherapists, psychologists, exercise physiologists and social workers.

Disease management Cardiac Medicine and Surgery Centre
The Cardiovascular Institute at NYU Langone Medical Center is ranked fifth in the U.S. News and World Report's "2022-23 U.S. Hospitals - Cardiology".

The specialists at the Cardiovascular Institute at NYU Langone Medical Center are leaders in cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and advanced diagnostic imaging, not only in New York, but worldwide. Physicians work as a team to provide a personalised, compassionate and multidisciplinary integrated approach to patient care. The plan is that newer research findings are rapidly translated into advanced patient care, and physicians from around the world come to learn new techniques and treatments. Indeed, some of the most advanced and effective treatments in cardiac surgery have been pioneered and refined over the past 35 years.
