The University of California, San Francisco Medical Center (UCSF Medical Center) was established in 1868 in San Francisco, California, with two main hospitals located on the Parnassus and Mount Zion campuses and a new hospital on the Mission Bay campus. As a 650-bed inpatient medical and surgical complex, the centre receives approximately 770,000 outpatient visits and 38,000 inpatient visits annually. UCSF Medical Center is ranked 12th in the U.S. News and World Report's "Top U.S. Hospitals 2022-23" list.


Disease Treatment Cancer Center
UCSF Medical Center's Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center was ranked eighth in the 2018-19 U.S. Hospitals - Oncology by U.S. News & World Report.


The Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of only two cancer treatment centres in Northern California to receive the "Comprehensive" designation from the National Cancer Institute. It treats all types of cancer, including AIDS-related cancers, bone cancer, brain tumours, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, gynaecological cancers, head and neck cancers, leukaemia, liver cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer, spinal cord tumours, urological cancers and more. Supported by new equipment, expanded programs and innovative research, new treatments are offered to achieve the goal of slowing disease progression, improving quality of life and bringing new hope to cancer patients as knowledge of the disease improves.

Disease Treatment Nephrology Center
UCSF Medical Center's Center for the Treatment of Kidney Disease was ranked fourth in the 2018-19 U.S. Hospitals - Nephrology by U.S. News and World Report.
The centre is one of the better hospitals for the treatment of severe kidney disease, providing comprehensive consultation, diagnosis and management of acute and chronic renal failure, renal vascular disease, hypertensive disorders, immune kidney disease, complex renal tubular and electrolyte disorders, metabolic evaluation and treatment of kidney stones, and evaluation and management of patients before and after kidney transplantation.


The Renal Centre includes the Mount Zion Dialysis Centre, the Renal Transplant Centre, the Parnassus Renal and Hypertension Centre and the Polycystic Kidney Centre of Excellence. Services provided include: acute and chronic haemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, peritoneal dialysis, home haemodialysis and plasma exchange associated with renal transplantation.

Disease Management Diabetes & Endocrine Centre
The Endocrine Care Center at UCSF Medical Center is ranked third in the U.S. News and World Report's "2020-21 U.S. Hospitals - Endocrinology".


The Center's Endocrine Clinic and Metabolism provides comprehensive counseling and treatment for patients with all known and suspected hormonal disorders such as diabetes, hypothalamic and pituitary disorders, adrenal disorders, amenorrhea, hirsutism, male sexual dysfunction, osteoporosis and bone metabolic disorders, thyroid and parathyroid gland abnormalities, kidney stones and lipid disorders.


Endocrine treatment centres include: Mount Zion Diabetes Clinic, Parnassus Diabetes Clinic, Diabetes Education Centre, Endocrine Surgery and Oncology, Mount Zion Endocrine Clinic, Parnassus Endocrine Clinic, Lipid Practice, Thyroid.

Disease Management Center for Neurological Endosurgery
UCSF Medical Center's Center for Neurological Endosurgery is ranked second in the U.S. News and World Report's "2022-23 U.S. Hospitals - Neurology".


The Center's programs are led by world-renowned experts in the diagnosis and treatment of brain and spine disorders and include a large national brain tumor program, one of the larger cerebrovascular programs in the United States, and one of the few comprehensive centres for memory disorders in Northern California.

The Department of Gynecology at UCSF Medical Center is ranked sixth in "2018-19 U.S. Hospitals - Gynecology" by U.S. News and World Report.


UCSF's Center for Gynecologic Care is recognized as one of the nation's leading gynecologic care centres, where physicians believe that collaborative decision-making is an effective approach and work closely with experts in obstetrics, abstinence and fertility to provide care tailored to each woman's needs, with the goal of maintaining health and treating disease.


The centre treats all types of gynaecological conditions including menopausal symptoms, pelvic pain, fibroids, urinary incontinence, uterine bleeding, fibroids, abnormal Pap smears, perineal abnormalities, paediatric and adolescent gynaecological conditions, abnormal menstrual cycles, endometriosis, ovarian masses, polycystic ovary syndrome, sexually transmitted diseases, urinary tract infections, vaginitis, etc.

The UCSF Medical Center's Urology Care Center is ranked fourth in the 2018-19 U.S. Hospitals - Urology by U.S. News and World Report.


The centre provides diagnostic and specialty care for urologic conditions, including urologic cancers, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, testicular cancer, urology, male sexual dysfunction, erectile dysfunction, genitourinary injuries, Peyronie's disease, abnormal penile erections, urethral injuries, urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, urolithiasis, male infertility and prostate disease. The goal is to provide skilled, compassionate and innovative care.


In addition to conventional treatment, new treatment techniques are practised that can be used for patients with a wide range of conditions, such as urethral reconstruction, prostate imaging and biopsy, cryosurgery and localised cancer radioactive particle implantation.

UCSF Medical Center is one of the top 10 hospitals in the nation for the treatment of rheumatic diseases, with renowned rheumatologists specializing in a variety of conditions affecting muscles, bones and joints. The centre brings together specialists from several specialties, including rheumatology, orthopaedic surgery, dermatology and orthopaedic surgery, to diagnose and treat more than 100 arthritic conditions. Several of the Centre's doctors are consistently ranked among the best in San Francisco and in the country.

Disease Treatment Geriatric Medicine Centre
The Division of Geriatrics at UCSF Medical Center is ranked eighth in U.S. News and World Report's "2018-19 U.S. Hospitals - Geriatrics".


Seniors in this unit receive personalised care from physicians who specialise in caring for people over the age of 70, and other specialists and health professionals from USCF are also available to care for patients.


Services include doctors, nurses and social workers trained in the specific needs of older people, podiatry, psychology and laboratory aids are available on site, in addition to available physiotherapy and radiology resources nearby. The department's treatment centres include: the Primary Care Centre, the Screening and Acute Care Centre, the Hearing Centre and the Memory and Ageing Centre.
